Its main objective is to contribute to overall development of mental health services in Hyderabad. To fulfil this objective, it conducts one continuous medical education every month.
Annually it also conducts Dr. MAM KHAN oration award where an eminent psychiatrist residing in Hyderabad is felicitated for his/her contribution to the field of psychiatry. IMH oration award / Raghurami Reddy oration award is also held annually where Dr Raghurami Reddy, an eminent psychiatrist selects a deserving non psychiatrist residing in Hyderabad for his/her contribution to the society.
For promoting mental health awareness in the society, HPS conducts suicide prevention walk on September 10th every year, it also conducts awareness programmes during mental health week from October 4 – October 10 annually its members give talks on various platforms and also publish articles in various newspapers.
Any person who has post graduate degree in psychiatry recognised by Telangana State Medical Council (MD/DNB) can become a life member of the society, Non-Psychiatry medical professionals can become associate members.
